When you have teeth missing and you do not opt for a bridge, you can choose for an implant. This is only possible when there is sufficient bone tissue or when bone can be build-up again. Other conditions are that you do not smoke and have no gum problems. A small hole will be drilled in the jawbone in which a screw of titanium is being placed. In general titanium will not be rejected by the body and it is a material that settles firmly into the jawbone. This procedure is not done by your own dentist, but by a specialist on implants, like an implantologist, an oral surgeon or periodontologist. We can however, create the build-up part for you; the tooth or molar that will be fixed onto the implant itself after this is perfectly set in the jawbone after a few months. The implant itself and the creation and fixing of the build-up, require several appointments. When the missing tooth is in a visible spot the dentist can decide to create a temporary solution for the healing period, such as an acid etch bridge. So an implant does not mean that you have to walk around with a gap in your teeth. We take care of that.
