Fillings

When a cavity is detected, or an older fillings has started to ‘leak’ which causes the cavity underneath to grow in size, the affected part is removed and is filled up with composite filling. Composite is a tooth colored material that comes in many natural colors. The advantage of composite fillings is that less healthy tooth tissue has to be removed, compared to amalgam. Besides this, composite bonds to the existing tooth tissue, which will be strengthened by this. The white fillings are certainly better looking than the darker, conventional ones. The natural appearance is further enhanced by the dentist making fissures and a profile in the composite filling which makes it almost impossible to see that any work at all is done on the tooth or molar.
