By taking an X-ray of your teeth, the dentist can assess the condition underneath fillings and of your roots. For instance when you decide to have a bridge made or a crown, the roots of the teeth or molars involved have to be in perfect condition. The same goes for the jawbone. This can all be established by an X-ray. When the dentist suspects something to be wrong, he or she can also decide to make an X-ray. Besides all this, X-rays are periodically made to establish the condition of your teeth. This may be done from a few teeth at the same time, or a so called OPT can be made; a complete oversight picture of your entire teeth and molars. Many people worry about the radiation of X-rays, but this is so minimal that is hardly measurable and therefore considered not harmful. Even pregnant women may have (limited) X-rays taken.
